Aluminium (Al)

Ordnungszahl: 13
Name: Aluminum
Namensursprung: Latin: alumen, aluminis, (alum).
Entdeckung: 1825 by Hans Christian Oersted in Denmark
Beschreibung: Soft, lightweight, silvery-white metal. Third most abundant element in the earth's crust.
Vorkommen: Never occurs in free form. Obtained by electrolysis from bauxite (Al2O3).
Verwendung: Used for many purposes from airplanes to beverage cans. Too soft in its pure form so less than 1% of silicon or iron is added, which hardens and strengthens it.
